Galactic X-ray Survey

چکیده
We review highlights of the results obtained from recent Galactic X-ray survey observations, in particular ASCA Galactic center and plane survey and our Chandra deep survey on the (l, b) ≈ (28. ◦5, 0. ◦0) region. Strong hard X-ray diffuse components are observed from Galactic ridge, center and bulge, and they have both thermal and non-thermal spectral components. Dozens of discrete and extended sources have been discovered on the Galactic plane, which also indicate thermal and/or non-thermal X-ray energy spectra. They are often associated with radio sources and are considered to be SNR candidates. Most of the hard X-ray point sources in the outer part of the Galactic plane are considered to be background AGNs, while fraction of the Galactic hard X-ray sources (such as quiescent dwarf novae) increases toward the Galactic center. Most of the soft X-ray sources on the Galactic plane are presumably nearby active stars.

X-ray Processing of Champlane Fields: Methods and Initial Results for Selected Anti-galactic Center Fields
We describe the X-ray analysis procedure of the on-going Chandra Multiwavelength Plane (ChaMPlane) survey and report the initial results from the analysis of 15 selected anti-Galactic center observations (90 < l < 270). We describe the X-ray analysis procedures for ChaMPlane using custom-developed analysis tools appropriate for Galactic sources but also of general use: optimum photometry in cro...
متن کاملDigital Sky Survey
Current X-ray observatories, archival X-ray data, and the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) represent a powerful combination for addressing key questions about active galactic nuclei (AGN). We describe a few selected issues at the forefront of X-ray AGN research and the relevance of the SDSS to them. Bulk X-ray/SDSS AGN investigations, X-ray weak AGN, red AGN, hard X-ray selected AGN, high-redshi...
متن کاملThe X-Ray Luminosity Function of Active Galactic Nuclei
We derive an X-ray luminosity function for active galactic nuclei (AGN) that accounts for the X-ray source counts in the 0.5–2.0 and 2–10 keV energy ranges, the redshift distribution of AGNs in the ROSAT Deep Survey (RDS), as well as the X-ray background (XRB) from 1–10 keV. We emphasize the role of X-ray absorption, which has a large effect on the faint end of the 2– 10 keV source counts, as w...
متن کاملDeep-Survey Constraints on X-ray Outbursts from Galactic Nuclei
Luminous X-ray outbursts with variability amplitudes as high as ∼ 1 000 have been detected from a small number of galactic nuclei. These events are likely associated with transient fueling of nuclear supermassive black holes. In this paper, we constrain X-ray outbursts with harder spectra, higher redshifts, and lower luminosities than have been studied previously. We performed a systematic surv...
متن کاملOrigin of the hard x-ray emission from the Galactic plane.
The Galactic plane is a strong emitter of hard x-rays (2 to 10 kiloelectron volts), and the emission forms a narrow continuous ridge. The currently known hard x-ray sources are far too few to explain the ridge x-ray emission, and the fundamental question of whether the ridge emission is ultimately resolved into numerous dimmer discrete sources or truly diffuse emission has not yet been settled....
